Keeping Mum (2005)

£0.00

Country: GB/US
Technical: DeLuxe/2.35:1 103m
Director: Niall Johnson
Cast: Rowan Atkinson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Maggie Smith, Patrick Swayze, Emilia Fox

Synopsis:

A vicar's wife's problems, which include a boring love life, flighty daughter and obstreperous neighbour's dog, are resolved in short order following the arrival of the new housekeeper. However, there are a couple of momentous surprises riding on the coat-tails of this Mrs Doubtfire, one of which is that she is a former axe-murderess newly released into the community.

Review:

Genteel black comedy which develops a soft centre, appearing to prescribe that the only obstacles to a happy marriage and family life are the absence of a couple of risqué jokes in one's sermons and the willingness to dispose with extreme prejudice of anyone who gets in the way. The final implication that the daughter has adopted the murderous tactics of her mother leaves an unpleasant aftertaste, notwithstanding the charm even of Miss Scott Thomas's performance.
