Jupiter's Darling (1955)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 96m
Director: George Sidney
Cast: Esther Williams, Howard Keel, George Sanders
Synopsis:
A Roman beauty approaches Hannibal's camp to persuade him not to attack the city, at least not with his elephants wearing grey.
Review:
Hilarious nonsense, and a modish costume vehicle for the antipodean swimming lovely, this musical extravaganza is in a way far more entertaining than some of the bona fide Hollywood costume epics: at least its crassness is deliberate. The MGM producers again flirt dangerously with the conditions under which they can afford to show Miss Williams wet (she is wearing patrician white much of the time), and there is a wonderfully Duck Soup-like moment when three choruses are required to call Hannibal from his tent.
