Jezebel (1938)
Country: US
Technical: bw 104m
Director: William Wyler
Cast: Bette Davis, Henry Fonda, George Brent
Synopsis:
A southern belle proves herself too headstrong and loses her fiancée, but vows to get him back, whatever it takes.
Review:
Very much a carbon copy (that red dress in black and white!) of the ingredients of Gone with the Wind; the representation of negroes seems even more of its period, i.e. patronising. Only Davis makes it somehow worthwhile, which is apt since it was offered her as consolation for not getting Scarlett O'Hara.
