Jesse James (1939)
Country: US
Technical: Technicolor 106m
Director: Henry King
Cast: Tyrone Power, Henry Fonda, Nancy Kelly, Randolph Scott
Synopsis:
Railroad agents turn the James family off their farm, and brothers Frank and Jesse avenge themselves by robbing trains.
Review:
Probably the most handsome early Technicolor film among Westerns, with some magnificent location work including the now notorious shot of the pair riding their horses off a cliff into the lake. Naturally it is a total whitewash of the James story, casting the brothers as romantic heroes almost in the Robin Hood mould. Fritz Lang made a sequel, The Return of Frank James, also with Fonda.
