I Walk Alone (1947)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 97m
Director: Byron Haskin
Cast: Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Lizabeth Scott, Wendell Corey

Synopsis:

A bootlegger gets out of jail sore at having been neglected by his former partner, but getting even is not so easy now that the nightclub business is legit.

Review:

Weakly plotted Paramount noir, short on atmosphere too, given that every scene takes place at night. It's the kind of film in which the hero has 'fall guy' written all over him, and reveals all his cards early on so the bad guy can gain the upper hand. Lancaster is so mad it takes two thirds of the movie for him to cool off, Douglas never played such a weasel, and Scott does her Lauren Bacall act as she purrs a couple of sappy songs. She plays the same part, and I could swear even wears the same costumes, in Dark City (1950).
