Country: ICE
Technical: col/2.35:1 105m
Director: Óskar Thór Axelsson
Cast: Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Ágústa Eva Erlendsdóttir, Sara Dögg Ásgeirsdóttir

Synopsis:

A psychiatrist and a policewoman investigate links between a sixty year-old child disappearance and a spate of mysterious deaths, while a trio of friends renovate a house in an abandoned whaling village where the boy's family had lived. As one of them falls increasingly prey to uncanny manifestations, the rational psychiatrist also has visions that seem to connect with his own son's disappearance three years previously.

Review:

This multi-stranded haunting tale with Scandi-noir overtones successfully deploys some effective twists and hair-raising apparitions over its length, but performs one of those chronological sleights of hand that come close to breaking the rules and call for a hurried reappraisal of the action. While that is arguably a gamble that pays off, the paucity of narrative markers and confusing similarity of some of the characters make for a strenuous viewing experience.
