Ice Age (2002)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 81m
Director: Chris Wedge, Carlos Saldanha
Cast: Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary

Synopsis:

As a new ice age approaches, a woolly mammoth and a sloth together rescue an infant human from the clutches of a pack of sabre-toothed tigers.

Review:

Jokey stuff concerning a rodent and a prized acorn bring off-the-wall humour to kids' animation; the core is pure schmaltz about a leopard changing its spots thanks to a big-eyed kid and shared hardships. Quite how the babe survives sub-zero temperatures without so much as a nappy under his tunic after about the second reel is a quibble one probably shouldn't make of a childrens' animated feature, but somehow it jars with the introduction of mortality through the death from exposure of the mother... Anyway, it's brilliantly drawn and nicely characterised and voiced entertainment, with Sid the Sloth only mildly less irritating than he is plainly meant to be.
