I Spit on Your Grave (1978)

Country: US
Technical: col 101m
Director: Meir Zarchi
Cast: Camille Keaton, Eron Tabor, Richard Pace

Synopsis:

A young woman arriving in a rural community is gang raped, and takes a horrible revenge on her assailants.

Review:

Highly moral, but no less unpleasant, revenge drama which adopts a deliberate pace, uses thoughtful setups and adequate acting and contains an extended rape sequence which is gruelling to watch. However, the fact that it is well made and does not eroticize its victim does not take away from the evident sensationalist intent, an example of the attention-seeking nastiness of the video era. Some critics argued that the avenging harpie of the final reel is just as much an objectification of the woman as if she had looked beautiful while being raped. Whatever the case it was too much for HM's government, who banned it.
