The Hit (1984)
Country: GB
Technical: col 98m
Director: Stephen Frears
Cast: John Hurt, Terence Stamp, Tim Roth, Laura del Sol
Synopsis:
Hitmen on a job to despatch a grass hiding out in Spain are disconcerted by the sang froid of their autodidact quarry, and the resourcefulness of the tigress they find themselves taking along.
Review:
Goodlooking character thriller which has nevertheless not dated well; the perpetual stay of execution becomes gimmicky and repetitious, and rarely can so many existentialist bons mots have been self-consciously voiced as by Stamp's character. (The film marked a return to the screen for Stamp after about a decade's absence.) It is interesting to compare Sexy Beast for its treatment of a similar theme.
