Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
Country: NZ
Technical: col/2.35:1 101m
Director: Taika Waititi
Cast: Sam Neill, Julian Dennison, Rima Te Wiata, Rachel House
Synopsis:
A 'difficult' foster child is left with a couple in the outback who welcome him like a stray dog. Until, that is, there is a surprise mishap and the boy takes off into the hills, fearing the juvenile detention centre.
Review:
At times hilarious, with its Rambo narrative and off-the-wall presentation, this odd couple comedy is also touchingly apt. Neither of them wants very much to go back to civilization, for differing reasons, and the ensuing manhunt, though overstated, never quite yields to an American temptation towards tear-duct opening tragedy.
