House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Country: US
Technical: col 89m
Director: Rob Zombie
Cast: Chad Bannon, Sid Haig, Karen Black, Erin Daniels
Synopsis:
Two young couples en route home on Halloween's eve fall foul of a family of depraved hillbillies.
Review:
Clearly derived from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the director's own skewed brand of humour, this abject piece of horror trash punctures its formulaic narrative (unsuspecting travellers get tortured, hunted or killed) with grungily ruminative cutaways of sexualised horror, and screaming metal soundbursts. It also has the temerity and poor taste to name some of its characters after those played by Groucho Marx. One or two movie references there may be, such as the From Dusk till Dawn opener, but this is no John Carpenter-style debut.
