Hollywood Canteen (1944)
Country: US
Technical: bw 123m
Director: Delmer Daves
Cast: Robert Hutton, Joan Leslie, Bette Davis, John Garfield, The Andrews Sisters and many others (playing themselves)
Synopsis:
Servicemen on leave receive complimentary dinner, dance and entertainment from Hollywood stars, at a special club for the armed forces, and one of them gets to meet his dream date, Joan Leslie.
Review:
Based on the actual Hollywood Canteen and conceived as a multi-studio effort like the original, the production became a solo Warners effort when the others dragged their heels. It's a dramatically thin, morale-boosting (and fundraising) effort, but there is plenty of fun to be had name-checking the all-star cast, even if the material is mediocre.
