Highly Dangerous (1950)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: bw 90m
Director: Roy Ward Baker
Cast: Margaret Lockwood, Dane Clark, Marius Goring, Naunton Wayne, Wilfrid Hyde-White

Synopsis:

An entomologist is packed off to a Balkan state by the Imperial Staff to bring back samples of bugs being bred by dastardly reds in preparation for germ warfare. No sooner does she arrive than she finds her contact killed and her only friend an American newspaperman who will do anything for a good story, even brave the secret police to steal bugs...

Review:

Fairly standard Cold War thriller with very slightly Hitchcockian comedy flourishes and an apparently ageless Miss Lockwood, who is nevertheless somewhat stiff and untempting for a handsome young Yank journalist. The whole thing is as preposterous as the Dick Barton-style derring-do to which the latter at one point laughingly compares the heroine's delusional scheme, and is somewhat reminiscent of one of those Tintin adventures, only with a sexless female Tintin.
