Heartburn (1986)
Country: US
Technical: col 108m
Director: Mike Nichols
Cast: Meryl Streep, Jack Nicholson
Synopsis:
Two divorcee journalists marry and have children, but he is unfaithful so she leaves him.
Review:
Apparently based on the experiences of writer Nora Ephron and journalist Carl Bernstein, this promising two-hander exercise in dirty linen washing loses its grip halfway through (or shows its hand) and becomes a one-hander, concentrating on the Streep character. How she discovers the infidelity in the first place is never explained and one is left with a feminist drama whose catalogue of abuse is underwhelming and whose resolution is lacking in dramatic heft.
