Harry He's Here to Help (2000)
(Harry Un ami qui vous veut du bien)
Country: FR
Technical: col/Panavision 117m
Director: Dominik Moll
Cast: Laurent Lucas, Sergi López, Mathilde Seigner, Sophie Guillemin
Synopsis:
A husband on holiday with his wife and family is approached by a charismatic man of leisure claiming to be an old school friend, who attempts to revive the former's writing by systematically removing any obstacles to his creativity, including members of his family...
Review:
Rendellesque addition to the Hitchcockian sub-genre of 'charming but unhinged stranger threatens conventional status quo'. Realised in the understated, character-centred French manner it does not seem hackneyed in the least and sports convincing performances from a cast of relative unknowns, making good use of the charming Catalan actor in the title role. The director does not exploit the rural locations for pictorial effect, despite the widescreen format and impressive Massif Central scenery.
