The Good Nurse (2022)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 121m
Director: Tobias Lindholm
Cast: Jessica Chastain, Eddie Redmayne, Noah Emmerich, Nnamdi Asomugha

Synopsis:

A nurse suffering from a life-threatening heart condition, but who is unable to take sick leave because she hasn't been at her hospital long enough, is helped by a male colleague on both an emotional and practical level. However, when patients start dying on their ward, she is the only one with the inside knowledge to implicate him.

Review:

Apparently based on a true story, and thus happily not packaged as a thriller along Coma (1979) or Malice (1992) lines, the unsettling narrative is partly angled as an extremely effective interpersonal drama, and part as whistle-blowing indictment of the U.S. health system: hospitals gag their employees and suppress information so as not to be caught up in expensive liability suits, and hot potatoes such as the present not-so-good nurse can be tossed around from trust to trust so that they become someone else's problem. The stars are both excellent in their roles, and the handling of the police investigation is mercifully low-key.
