The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 158m
Director: David Fincher
Cast: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Robin Wright, Joely Richardson, Stellan Skarsgård

Synopsis:

An investigative journalist looking to lie low for a while, after being sued in a libel case, takes a research job for the head of one of Sweden's most powerful families, unaware that he has himself been investigated by a brilliant young ward of state.

Review:

Redundant remake of a notable Swedish success (even the signs and so on are in Swedish, and some of the cast sport Swedish accents) by a director who has made the dark procedural his métier. Craig and Mara do creditable jobs covering the original roles, and the cinematography is particularly impressive in conjuring the twilight world of nordic morality that had become a televisual genre in its own right, but as the film ends on a falsely sentimental note with Lisbeth behaving like a jilted lover, one wonders at the point of the endeavour.
