The Getaway (1994)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 115m
Director: Roger Donaldson
Cast: Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, Michael Madsen, James Woods

Synopsis:

A master heist operator is sprung from a Mexican jail to do a job for a Texan underworld chief, who is won over by his wife's charms. Several betrayals later the couple succeed in leaving the past behind.

Review:

An almost scene for scene remake of the Peckinpah film; and one wonders why it was felt necessary to do it again at all, except that it offers another star couple the chance to act out their passion on screen, and with rather more explicit sex scenes this time. In tone the film is also different in that it eschews that rather baroque editing style of Peckinpah's for an altogether more sleek, classical continuity; though it does keep the slow-motion shots. In brief, a more conventional, thrilling entertainment, and one which does make clear the ambiguity of the title.
