Gumshoe (1971)

£0.00

Country: GB
Technical: col 85m
Director: Stephen Frears
Cast: Albert Finney, Billie Whitelaw, Frank Finlay

Synopsis:

A Liverpool variety club announcer-cum aspiring stand-up advertises himself as a private eye and receives a gun, a photo and a large sum of money. Deciding against the hitman path of action, he investigates and finds a trail that leads to his brother's shady business dealings in southern Africa.

Review:

Playful private eye thriller which quotes films such as The Big Sleep and has a leading character who slips into Bogartian vernacular and wears a trenchcoat. The gimmick of course is the very English working class setting and the casting of Finney is perfect in this and other respects.
