Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 112m
Director: Stanley Kramer
Cast: Spencer Tracy, Katharine Hepburn, Sidney Poitier, Katharine Houghton

Synopsis:

A liberally educated girl brings a young widowed doctor home to her parents, having met him on holiday. The surprise part is that they are engaged and that he is black.

Review:

Well of course Hollywood had to start somewhere and it was usually Kramer who led the way, but the fact is that if ever a white traditional family was going to accept a black son-in-law, it was going to be Sidney Poitier. Naturally they still have to talk themselves round to it, and the couple being Tracy and Hepburn adds another layer of complication. How well it all plays now, I am not sure. The star also starred that year in a little film called In the Heat of the Night, which seemed much more to be fighting the prejudices where they lived.
