Guadalcanal Diary (1943)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: bw 93m
Director: Lewis Seiler
Cast: Preston Foster, Lloyd Nolan, William Bendix, Richard Conte, Anthony Quinn, Richard Jaeckel, Lionel Stander

Synopsis:

The story of the US Marines who established a beachhead at Guadalcanal, only to be met with fierce Japanese resistance.

Review:

The solemnly intoned narration is at times underwhelming in its straining for epic resonance, but there is a great cast of faces here, and the action scenes are vividly mounted, even if the demands of propaganda (there is even an invitation to buy war bonds at the end title) ultimately get the better of realism. Anyhow, this Fox production is one of the classic US Marine actioners, along with Halls of Montezuma (1950) and None But the Brave (1965), though none is a great movie.
