Gravity (2013)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 91m
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Cast: Sandra Bullock, George Clooney, Ed Harris

Synopsis:

While on a routine operation to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, a group of astronauts including a female scientist and a seasoned old-timer on his last space walk is hit by a freak storm of debris from a destroyed Russian satellite. The following three hours spell life or death for the surviving duo.

Review:

Like The Old Man and the Sea and Castaway, this powerful 'science-faction' drama leaves the star to herself for long stretches of screen time, confirming any doubts we had that this was an actress wilfully undersold by the Hollywood machine. Advances in visual effects make it possible to create zero gravity environments for the space of an entire film, where as recently as Howard's Apollo 13 only brief snatches were envisageable. The results, in 3-D and with a deafening music track, constitute a bare-knuckle ride with a definite human interest kickback, as a despairing soul confronts the infinite and her own mortality.
