Grand Prix (1966)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 179m
Director: John Frankenheimer
Cast: James Garner, Eva Marie Saint, Yves Montand
Synopsis:
We follow a group of Formula One drivers through the annual Grand Prix.
Review:
Rather than build a story around a race in the manner of Checkpoint, say, Frankenheimer structures his film around the Grand Prix season and sets about spinning its tired little yarns in between the races , which makes for a long movie. As with many sixties superproductions a lack of focus is the price you pay for some excitingly filmed 70mm track footage, including gimmicky use of split-screen effects.
