Review:
The film appears at first as the epitome of every reactionary character its director/star ever played, and can be relished for that, provided it has something more. Happily the Death Wish-style vengeance never comes, and we arrive at a very different kind of redemption. Eastwood has tremendous fun playing this far from saintly man for all he's worth (he is in almost every scene), before he turns into the Omega Man.
