Synopsis:
As the Germans invade Norway in spring 1940, the Central Bank prepares to evacuate the country's gold reserves, without dedicated transport or trained personnel.
Review:
This well-made and immensely entertaining film has some of the hallmarks of the stirring historical drama (e.g. Dunkirk), though at times the tone seems closer to that of Whisky Galore! This impression is enhanced by the presence of doubtless familiar Norwegian actors in key roles, and the sparring between the representatives of civil and military authority over the former's insistence on counting and recounting the gold. The use of a school bus at one point even harks back to Where Eagles Dare, and the film will no doubt become something of a national favourite to set alongside The King's Choice, not so grave but just as patriotic.
