(Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery)

Country: US
Technical: col 139m
Director: Rian Johnson
Cast: Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Janelle Monáe

Synopsis:

A billionaire invites his acolytes in science and the media to his private island in order to celebrate the launch of his new abundant energy source, and to enjoy a murder mystery weekend. Unbeknown to him, someone else has invited famed detective Benoit Blanc along for protection.

Review:

Reasonably felicitous sequel to Knives Out, rebranded in order to make that clear, with a star more at ease with his accent and a fantastic location. (The villain, Miles Bron, is clearly set to evoke Elon Musk.) Whether we had had too many rich-people-on-island movies, or too many whodunnits, the style somehow swamps the mystery, and an eleventh-hour flashback resets the board. The murdering itself is decidedly low key, and we end somewhat pensively on a whimper.
