Georgetown (2019)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.35:1 99m
Director: Christoph Waltz
Cast: Christoph Waltz, Vanessa Redgrave, Annette Bening

Synopsis:

A mythomaniac worms his way into Washington high society, marrying a superannuated celebrity journalist, and builds up a consultancy based on a network of loose affiliations and contacts.

Review:

Presented in teasingly Tarantino-inspired, achronological chapters, Waltz's vanity project is far from being an exposé, but touts itself as a simulation of the kind of insanity that might happen in Georgetown, with someone as driven and unhinged as Mr Ulrich Mott. It comes over as a cross between Reversal of Fortune and A Self Made Hero, but unfortunately Mr Waltz is less than the dramatic heavyweight that his impressive featured roles led to believe, and we ultimately tire of his Mott as soon as we begin to suspect the truth. Many will also recoil from the arbitrary finish. It does, however, give Redgrave one of her last (one presumes) leading roles, which is worth a look.
