A Good Woman (2004)

£0.00

Country: GB/IT/SP/US
Technical: col 93m
Director: Mike Barker
Cast: Helen Hunt, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Campbell Moore, Mark Umbers, John Standing

Synopsis:

A gold digger is shunned from New York society, having cut a swathe through its menfolk, and sets out for Amalfi, where her long abandoned daughter and her new and very wealthy husband are honeymooning. But her innate goodness wins out over her blackmailing instincts.

Review:

Updated to the 1930s, this opportunistic version of Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan features one or two pleasing supporting performances - though not as pleasing as it would like to think - but relatively charmless, peevish leads. It does, however, pack in some classic epigrams, not all of them from the source material and one can always look at the locations (a more or less conscious emulation of Much Ado about Nothing's travel book tactics).
