The Fugitive (1993)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 127m
Director: Andrew Davis
Cast: Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Sela Ward, Julianne Moore, Joe Pantoliano, Jeroen Krabbé

Synopsis:

A Chicago doctor is wrongly convicted of his wife's murder and fortuitously escapes while en route to prison. Hunted down by US marshals he sets out to solve the crime and thus prove his innocence.

Review:

All sorts of weaknesses should consign this film to the worse than Under Siege stakes (at least that wasn't overlong and sentimental): a number of irritating plot lacunae beg all sorts of questions about where he got those clothes, how he managed that, and other details of the kind; furthermore, casting makes identification of the bad guys a foregone conclusion for any savvy filmgoer: they're both foreign looking. That said, Jones and Ford both do pretty well and are likeable company (though Ford overdoes that lopsided rueful smirk thing) and Davis keeps the action moving so fast (too fast, as already mentioned) that the first time at least you don't notice the flaws. Unfortunately this was one of an increasing number of films that turned to old TV series for their inspiration, and you can tell.
