The Fast and the Furious (2001)

£0.00

Country: US/GER
Technical: col/2.35:1 106m
Director: Rob Cohen
Cast: Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster

Synopsis:

An undercover cop insinuates his way into the confidences of a gang of high speed hijackers, but soon finds his loyalties divided.

Review:

One of the archetypal Western and crime movie formulae gets a burst of nitrous oxide but little more from this four-wheel makeover. Recalling Point Break more than most previous versions by virtue of its extreme sports setting, it's framed and edited like a Simpson/Bruckheimer movie, the camera hovering over every well-toned thigh and breast as much as the polished contours of metal and rubber. Walker is an affable leading man, looking appropriately enough like a latter day Terence Hill, and there are few cuss words, but how the film's obsession with speed and amorality managed to spawn six sequels is a measure of the decade's approach to mass entertainment.
