The Far Country (1954)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col 97m
Director: Anthony Mann
Cast: James Stewart, Walter Brennan, Ruth Roman, John McIntire

Synopsis:

A cattleman turned gold prospector in Alaska acts as reluctant guide to a French immigrant, but a crooked town boss reminds him just in time of what it means to be decent.

Review:

Perhaps the least impressive of the Mann-Stewart collaborations, this is also the darkest, with much significant action taking place at night, and plenty of woundings for the hero. It still contains impressive strokes, with its grandiose scenery and as ambivalent as ever a portrayal from its star; once again, as in Red River, Walter Brennan has to tell his boss, 'You're wrong'. Corinne Calvet's French girl, a strictly functional role, is an irritation.
