Energetic Hammer horror, more meticulous than usual about bodies, instruments and their provenance, and showing a contemporary topicality in the matter of brain transplants. The ambivalently villainous Frankenstein even rapes and, in an overtly sexual thrust, stabs Carlson's ingénue. Jones provides some serious acting, and the film has more conviction than most of the cycle.
