Review:
Part of the Joseph Wambaugh subgenre of realist cop movies, in reaction to the Freebie and the Bean/Dirty Harry variety, this is a worthy enough addition which afforded Newman a change of pace playing a blue-collar character. Audiences, however, had had enough of miserabilism, Reagan was in the White House and the film did not do well.
