Synopsis:
A cleaner turns up at a middle class apartment and finds herself in the middle of a domestic row, in which the overwrought wife is convinced her husband is having an affair with one of the neighbours.
Review:
A deft piece of social-realist drama where, in spite of early signs to the contrary, no party is entirely devoid of blame, or unworthy of our sympathy. White lies and unguarded remarks augment the atmosphere of mistrust that obtains in and around the building, and we end with two husbands left very much out in the cold, while another waits in the wings to marry the cleaner, and no doubt perpetuate the cycle. All in all, not that different to our own world, the titular fireworks only partly relating to the February New Year celebrations. The director went on to make other films devoted to husband-wife relationships.
