A Farewell to Arms (1957)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 150m
Director: Charles Vidor
Cast: Rock Hudson, Jennifer Jones, Vittorio de Sica, Alberto Sordi, Oscar Homolka, Mercedes McCambridge
Synopsis:
An American volunteer ambulance driver on the Italian front during WW1 is wounded and falls in love with the English nurse who tends him, but the war offers many barriers to their happiness.
Review:
As expected from the time and money that went into its production, this contains many scenes of visual beauty to rank alongside the other great Selznick picture books. But the story just can't take it and, however strong the supporting cast, the leads are without chemistry.
