The Eiger Sanction (1975)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/scope 125m
Director: Clint Eastwood
Cast: Clint Eastwood, George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee

Synopsis:

A professor and collector of fine art, who has financed his hobby by performing contract killings for a government agency, comes out of retirement to avenge a former friend. The snag: he must 'off' his quarry halfway up the Eiger, and he has to work out which of a team of mountaineers it is he has to kill.

Review:

Quite how many far-fetched notions you can get into a plot synopsis is anyone's game of rounders, but this film must be in there pitching. For some reason Eastwood decided to dabble in the espionage thriller, and this novel gave him someone suitably athletic to play, but an art professor, really? Anyway, it is a rambling ill-disciplined affair which builds (slowly) to a tense head to head on the mountain. At least we all learnt what 'sanction' meant.
