Erin Brockovich (2000)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: CFI 131m
Director: Steven Soderbergh
Cast: Julia Roberts, Albert Finney, Aaron Eckhart

Synopsis:

A feisty divorced mother of three struggles to get a respectable job with a law firm, where she stumbles on and investigates a case of real estate purchase by a power company. Before long she is gathering evidence of chromium pollution in the ground water and its effects on the local community.

Review:

Like its over-dressed leading character, what appears at first to be a WYSIWYG creation of little intellectual depth is almost at once revealed to be much more than that. Leaving the inescapable spectacle of Miss Roberts's enhanced cleavage aside, the rhythm of the film, the naturalistic tenor of the dialogue (for the most part avoiding one-liners) and the unostentatious playing of roles ripe for sentimental exploitation mark the film out as another subtle piece of genre-twiddling from this most sensitive of directors.
