Technical: col 110m
Director: Deepa Mehta
Cast: Maia Sethna, Nandita Das, Rahul Khanna, Raghuvir Yadav

Synopsis:

Lahore, 1947: on the eve of Partition a group of friends of mixed faiths gravitate around the beautiful Shanta, servant of a privileged Parsee family and nanny to the polio-stricken narrator. Will their loyalty to each other survive the onset of violence about to erupt as Lahore is made part of muslim Pakistan?

Review:

Poignantly eye-opening child's perspective on what occurred at the human level when the British clumsily attempted to keep religious extremists from each other's throats. Interestingly, it is the most apparently liberal character who ultimately turns instrument of destruction.
