Cowboys & Aliens (2011)
Country: US/IND
Technical: col/2.39:1 119m
Director: Jon Favreau
Cast: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde, Clancy Brown, Paul Dano, Sam Rockwell, Keith Carradine
Synopsis:
A wanted man with amnesia rides into town with a mysterious bracelet attached to his arm, and before long finds himself in an unlikely alliance to free the townsfolk that have been recently snatched by aliens.
Review:
Aside from the scant comfort that you might emerge a better person after being hypnotised by extra-terrestrials, this is nothing more than a gimmicky, Tremors-style romp through some familiar western tropes, the aliens themselves being undifferentiated ghouls, all but impossible to down except when narrative expediency requires it. Still, Craig harnesses his screen persona well to six shooters and a Lee Van Cleef stetson, and Favreau generally contrives some witty, movie brat touches (surely that is Blanco Canyon from The Big Country we see at the film's climax?)
