Consuming Passions (1988)
Country: GB/US
Technical: col 100m
Director: Giles Foster
Cast: Tyler Butterworth, Vanessa Redgrave, Freddie Jones, Jonathan Pryce
Synopsis:
A new employee at a chocolate factory inadvertently hits upon a new 'human ingredient' that draws unqualified market approval, but then must procure more of the same in order to hang onto his job.
Review:
Offensive satire, based on a Python-authored play (memories of the Crunchy Frog sketch and/or the Num-Yum segment in I'm All Right Jack, but in either case fatally overstretched). It is too crude to hit its targets and encourages a quality cast to overact grotesquely.
