Comrades (1987)
Country: GB
Technical: col 180m
Director: Bill Douglas
Cast: Robin Soans, William Gammara, Stephen Bateman, Philip Davis, Jeremy Flynn, Keith Allen, Alex North
Synopsis:
In the 1830s six Dorset labourers set up a secret brotherhood to campaign against low wages and in due course take the revolutionary measure of going out on strike. They are transported to Australia. Based on the case of the 'Tolpuddle Mart
Review:
At once a piece of social(ist) history and a conceit-filled examination of the pre-history of cinema. The lack of concessions to conventional narrative (all fragments and symbolism) and the huge length make it a meal indeed. But it's worth the effort.
