Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970)
(The Forbin Project)
Country: US
Technical: col/scope 100m
Director: Joseph Sargent
Cast: Eric Braeden, Gordon Pinsent, Susan Clark
Synopsis:
A governmental supercomputer in possession of the nuclear launch codes plays a game of cat and mouse with its creator.
Review:
Perhaps inspired by the HAL 9000 fallible computer in 2001, D.F. Jones's novel and James Bridges's screenplay ratchet up the suspense, as what appears to begin with to be a polite game of chess gradually turns into something far more sinister. Braeden is excellent as the scientist having to think on his feet.
