Shot with shallow depth of field to reflect its narrow focus and character-based storytelling, this beautifully acted portrayal of corrupted innocence captures extremely well that critical time where changing peer dynamics and personality traits lend themselves to differing outcomes. The reframing onto the bereaved mother is unexpected and rightly leaves certain questions unanswered, but elements such as the shifting lingua franca and the family's agricultural practices might have been better explained.
