Synopsis:
Caesar defeats Pompey, helps the Queen of Egypt be rid of her brother and co-ruler and eventually takes her to Rome as his mistress. When he is assassinated he is replaced in her bed by his supporter Marc Antony.

A film whose history is far more enthralling than its length, as narrated most entertainingly by its producer Walter Wanger in My Life with Cleopatra. Famous for the fact that Burton and Taylor fell in love during its making, it lavished millions of dollars on what in the end seemed like a series of wardrobe changes for the stars. Some of the lines jar, with anachronisms Harrison gets away with but no one else, some are just plain awful; the spectacle is grandiose but never exciting.
