City on Fire (1987)
Country: HK
Technical: col 101m
Director: Ringo Lam
Cast: Chow Yun-Fat, Sun Yeuh
Synopsis:
An undercover cop infiltrates a gang of jewel thieves as one last favour before he marries to his boss and older friend, who himself is at loggerheads with an irresponsible younger colleague at the station.
Review:
Tarantino got his basic plot and slambang action scenes for Reservoir Dogs from this potboiler, which admittedly has less gratuitous violence than the average Hong Kong thriller. The relationship between the hero and his contact in the gang is of particular interest also in the ambivalence it lends.
