Celebrity (1998)
Country: US
Technical: bw 113m
Director: Woody Allen
Cast: Kenneth Branagh, Judy Davis, Joe Mantegna, Winona Ryder, Melanie Griffith
Synopsis:
When a travel writer splits up from his school teacher wife because of a mid-life crisis, she finds herself both romantically and professionally while he suffers from misjudgement and bad luck.
Review:
Incidentally a comment on the hypnotic effect of celebrity, which seems to make all around it gibbering incoherent sycophants, this seems basically to be a piece of self-flagellation with Branagh standing in for Allen so that we can laugh at his ineptitude. Unfortunately it's more sad than funny, and longer than usual.
