The Force Awakens - or is it a recurring nightmare?
Having been drawn by some irresistible force (sic) to visit J. J. Abrams Star Wars reboot, I was underwhelmed by the storytelling, even if some shots, like the last one, attained some sort of mythic greatness. What kept coming to mind was Oppenheimer's famous misquote: 'I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds'. Now I know this was a feature of Star Wars (1977) itself, with the Death Star doing just that, but in a post-9/11 world the continued depiction by Hollywood of apocalyptic destruction in an entertainment context must qualify as, if not irresponsible, well, terrible!
