The Boss, Anatomy of a Crime (2014)

£0.00

(El patrón, radiografía de un crimen)

Country: ARG/VEN
Technical: col 90m
Director: Sebastián Schindel
Cast: Guillermo Pfening, Joaquín Furriel, Germán de Silva

Synopsis:

A case of modern day slavery: in Buenos Aires, a hard-working, loyal and honest Indian worker is trained to cheat customers and disguise putrefying meat by his exploitative boss until he cracks and kills him. A defence lawyer at first takes it on as a favour to a colleague, but then becomes absorbed by the guilty demeanour of the defendant.

Review:

The gradual degradation of labour that makes up the essence of this case study is mercifully intercut all the way through with the investigation and prosecution. Schindel shoots in Loachian style in cramped conditions, and his actors give outstanding accounts of their roles, the lawyer's imagination caught by the meekness of his client in the face of intolerable treatment.
