Lacking the discipline of Monty Python, this filmed Milligan material, mixed with some cold-hearted Pinteresque satire, barely raises a smile in an hour and a half despite its veritable army of British acting talent. Lester's eye for visual comedy fits the surreal tone, but to only fitful effect since it sits uneasily with the overriding apocalyptic bleakness.
