The Batman (2022)

£0.00

Country: US
Technical: col/2.39:1 176m
Director: Matt Reeves
Cast: Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Colin Farrell, Paul Dano, John Turturro, Andy Serkis

Synopsis:

The caped crusader faces up to The Riddler, a former orphan exacting vengeance on Gotham City's eminent figures for being more or less involved in corruption. As he closes in on his prey, he finds that the latter is closing in on him.

Review:

And so the Batman franchise enters its fourth (or fifth?) iteration, and it is hard to see any justification for this depressingly dark and protracted enterprise. Yes, our hero seems younger, more screwed up (and who wouldn't be?), but the story is so off-the-peg one wonders why they bothered. Mr Pattinson spends most of his time in costume, and Farrell is unrecognisable, so performance is moot here, though Miss Kravitz impresses. It is, as always, a production designer's picture, and we are deeper down noir's rain-soaked alley than ever; but rarely so bored.
